Would you dare to come away from your TV screen? Could you swap your passive TV sports for real action? Have you got what it takes? The real challenges await you outside, beyond your computer screen.

True Adventure

Have you ever crossed a river on a rope? Have you ever climbed up a steep gorge covered in a tropical rainforest? When did you last jump into a rock pool, swam a distance fully clothed, capsized in a raft, cycled along a muddy forest track?

Hear the water as it laps the shore, the birds, the engine of a boat.

Feel the sand, its texture, its dampness and warmth.

Feel the breeze move your hair, where it touches your cheek.

Feel the sun on your face, its warmth and direction.

Open your senses to all that is around you.

When did you last live your life?

Adventure sports challenge your physical and mental conditioning in an environment that demands teamwork, while providing lots of good, but sometimes dirty, wet fun.

The 'adventure' in adventure sports involves the unexpected. No two sports are the same. The events and terrain all change depending on the location and type of the activity.

We've compiled in this section some adrenaline pumping water sports that will push the envelope of your suburban life. Let's get you wet.

Example Sports

Adventure Races combine trekking/trail running, mountain biking, paddling and navigation. And if that's not enough, teams are also expected to complete special tests that are located throughout the course.

Floating is a French idea to have fun in slow rivers or mild rapids. You wear a robust overall on top of a wetsuit or warm clothes, add a bouyancy aid, and line up with your friends to float downstream.

Adventure Swimming includes rock jumping, coastal traversing and crossing rock pools, swimming along the beautiful coastline. You'll learn exciting new skills like swimming in clothes and water safety. Best of all, you'll get really close to nature.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Flexible secure footwear is required (old sneakers or river sandals). Comfortable swimwear, a ball cap or visor, sunglasses and sunscreen are optimum equipment. Running shorts worn over swimwear maximizes comfort for women. In spring and fall, wear wool or polypropylene and a windbreaker over swimwear, wool or Polartec socks under sneakers or wetsuit booties (available from rental center). DO NOT WEAR COTTON on the river. Cotton, when wet, is very uncomfortable. For cold and wet weather, wear a wetsuit and paddling jacket or polypropylene, pile fleece and a windbreaker. You may rent wetsuits, booties and jackets from ROCK-N-ROLL Rental Center the morning of your trip. (Most folks allow themselves 30 minutes extra to rent and put on wetsuits, etc.)
